Synopsis
Why Do Dogs Sniff Butts? is the first in a new series of natural history books for children that answer curious questions about their favorite pets. This book highlights the qualities of different types of dogs, from herding and hunting dogs to show and media mutts, answering such questions as, "Why do dogs play dead?," "How do you speak dog?," and "Why do dogs dig?"
The book also profiles famous dogs from history and popular culture, including the dog-headed Egyptian god Anubis and internet sensation Boo, the cutest dog in the world according to Google. Throughout the book, children will come to understand what's so unique about dogs' bodies and behaviors, why pups deserve to be well cared for, and why they are regarded as our best friends. By incorporating zoological information about the canine species with stories from history, art, religion, and pop culture, Why Do Dogs Sniff Butts? celebrates why dogs have been such dear pets to us for centuries.

About the Authors
Lily Snowden-Fine is an illustrator and painter based in Toronto. Her clients include the New York Times and Globe and Mail, among others.
Dr. Nick Crumpton is a zoologist at University College London. He completed his PhD at Cambridge University before working at the Natural History Museum and for the BBC as a journalist and researcher. He is the author of the Favorite Pets series and The Amazing Animal Atlas.
