The Weishaupt Forum in Schwendi near Ulm is one of the latest works by New York architect Richard Meier. His administration buildings, company headquarters and museums (at present he is building the Getty Center in the hills of Los Angeles) have garnered international acclaim. In 1987, the firm Weishaupt, a leading manufacturer of heating equipment, succeeded in commissioning Meier to design a building for exhibitions, training and social purposes in a region in Germany architecturally imbedded in the Baroque tradition. The building was completed in 1992 and now invites inspection. The texts and photographs by editor Werner Blaser explain the architectonic and aesthetic concepts defining the building and show how it purposefully interacts with its natural surroundings. Blaser speaks of the building's control of light as a matter to be experienced and he presents the forum as a peice of art that harmoniously fuses simplicity with elegance.
