Synopsis
This handbook explains the law and procedure relating to a change of name by an individual. From the starting point of a brief historical explanation the book goes on to explain how to effect changes of name, any restrictions that exist, and the implications of a change (eg passports, spouse and children, business stationery, directorships). Also included is a chapter on "names and arms" clauses in wills, where a beneficiary must assume a particular name if he/she is to inherit under a will. This edition has been generally updated throughout to include details of revised fees, the Family Law Reform Act 1987, which has altered the law relating to a father's rights over illegitimate children, and the changes in practice in the Central Office of the Supreme Court, with particular reference to the applicant's right to reside in the UK. It also contains forms and precedents for change of name.
