Introduction

It was a daunting experience. For the first time in my life, I was travelling abroad without my parents. Unfortunately, I had not chosen to sail across the channel and spend a relaxing week in the south of France; instead I had opted for a month of aid work in Thailand, a country and language I knew nothing about.

As I slowly made my way through customs, which involved my bags being searched (I think I must look very suspicious!), I stopped and wondered what I was doing. I panicked! What if something goes wrong? What if I become ill? What if I get taken away by bandits, or worse still what if no-one understands me when I order food and I starve to death? The thought of having no food for a month brought me out in a cold sweat! Before I knew it though, I was in a taxi and on my way to the village where I was staying. To my relief everything turned out fine. I didn’t get ill, I wasn’t taken away by bandits, and when all else failed McDonalds was always prepared to serve me a meal!

I guess that from my somewhat limited travels I might have experienced something of what you, an international student studying in the UK, might have experienced as you travelled here.

Time away is a great opportunity to explore and discover new things. I wonder if your studies here have ever caused you to think more about who you are, why you’re here, if there is a God, and whether it really matters anyway.

Each story in this book is the true account of how international students during their time in the UK did just that – examined the claims of Jesus Christ for themselves.
All of the stories are different, but nevertheless true, and all those mentioned have come to the same life-changing conclusion.

For some it was a totally new idea, taking months of investigating the facts before they did anything about it; for others the story of Jesus was already familiar and they simply needed to respond to it. However, all of them came to realise that they needed Jesus, and allowed Him to make a difference in their lives.
