The Evelyn Hospital (now the Nuffield) affected many lives in Cambridge, some of whom undoubtedly owing their lives to the high standards and top-level skills that were applied to acute medical and surgical cases. An independent hospital, it was as much a part of the fabric of Cambridge life as the University with which it had many associations.
Undoubtedly, once you were in the Evelyn, you felt a lot better just sampling the attentive and skilled care of the nurses and the atmosphere that made it less of a hospital and more of a refuge.
