A collection of 59 pocket notebooks kept by Frank Duren while he was working as a Connecticut State Police Officer between 1944 and 1962. The booklets are small and portable (around 4" x 6"), usually dated with various headings and include investigations, routines, expenses, mileage, field notes, and complaints. All notebooks are near fine with some toning. The notebook follows Duren throughout his career, started with the first titled: "Student Officer Frank Duren. Bethany, Connecticut from December 15, 1943 to February 4, 1944." Duren started with the Connecticut State Police as a Patrolmen and kept detailed notes of his daily activities. The early notebooks consist of notes to himself, how to properly write up complaints, how many copies of tickets he needs, and include timelines of his days and where he spent them - desk duty, police barracks, home, or patrolling. Included throughout are reports and statements from citizens concerning traffic accidents, break-ins, public intoxication, pets hit by cars, domestic disturbances, and one suicide. While the notebooks do not include any sensational elements, they do provide a realistic, ground-level view of the day-to-day activities of a Connecticut police officer in the postwar years.
