Rare Time Magazine Latin American Edition cover from the December 13, 1968 issue. Octavo, one page, featuring a reproduction of a bust portrait of Yasser Arafat painted by Hector Garrido. Signed and dated by Arafat in Arabic at the upper right. In near fine condition with mail folds. Yasser Arafat was chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organization from 1969 to 2004 and president of the Palestinian National Authority from 1994 to 2004. Ideologically an Arab nationalist and a socialist, Arafat was a founding member of the Fatah political party, which he led from 1959 until 2004. In the latter part of the 1950s, Arafat co-founded Fatah, a paramilitary organization which sought Israel's replacement with a Palestinian state; however, in 1988, he acknowledged Israel's right to exist and sought a two-state solution to the Israeliā"Palestinian conflict, and in 1994, he returned to Palestine, settling in Gaza City and promoting self-governance for the Palestinian territories. Arafat remains a controversial figure. Palestinians generally view him as a martyr who symbolized the national aspirations of his people, while many Israelis regarded him as a terrorist. Palestinian rivals, including Islamists and several PLO radicals, frequently denounced him as corrupt or too submissive in his concessions to the Israeli government.

Color photograph taken during the the signing of the Oslo II Accords of Bill Clinton, Yasser Arafat, Yitzhak Rabin and King Hussein of Jordan and Hosni Mubarak on the White House lawn, signed by Clinton, Arafat and Faisal Husseini. On September 28, 1995, the Israeli-Palestinian Interim Agreement on the West Bank and the Gaza Strip was signed in Washington, D.C. This agreement, which marks the conclusion of the first stage in negotiations between Israel and the PLO, incorporates and superseded the Gaza-Jericho and early empowerment agreements. The entire piece measures 17 inches by 13 inches. Rare and desirable signed by Clinton, Arafat and Hussein. A key and complex agreement in the Israeliā"Palestinian peace process, The Interim Agreement on the West Bank and the Gaza Strip commonly known as Oslo II was first signed in Taba (in the Sinai Peninsula, Egypt) by Israel and the PLO on September 24, 1995 and then four days later on September 28, 1995 by Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat and witnessed by US President Bill Clinton as well as by representatives of Russia, Egypt, Jordan, Norway, and the European Union in Washington, D.C. The agreement is built on the foundations of the initial Oslo I Accord, formally called the Declaration of Principles on Interim Self-Government Arrangements, which had been formally signed on September 13, 1993 by Israel and the PLO, with Prime Minister Rabin and Chairman Arafat in Washington, D.C. shaking hands, and officially witnessed by the United States and Russia.
