McAra, Catriona, ed. In Fairyland: the world of Tessa Farmer. London: Strange Attractor Press, 2016, 106pp., PAPERBACK, very good. "Tessa Farmer's dark, delicate spaces, her untamed, intricate creatures absolutely mesmerise me." Kate Bernheimer, author of My Mother She Killed Me, My Father He Ate Me: Forty New Fairy Tales. For almost two decades now, Tessa Farmer has been evolving a new species of fairy. They represent the point at which science tilts into fantasy as the sleep of reason produces monsters. In Fairyland is the first substantial scholarly volume devoted to Farmer's work. Here, leading thinkers in the fields of animal art, natural history and gothic studies assemble to investigate the significance of Farmer and her fairies, covering their relationship to fairy traditions in folklore and art, to entomological precedents for the malevolent behaviours of her creations. - CONTENTS: Editorial - The Malevolent Nostalgia of Tessa Farmer / Catriona McAra - Part One: Another Origin of Species Show and Tell / Brian Catling - Tessa Farmer and Arthur Machen: Perichoresis /John Sears - A Natural History of Tessa Farmer's Fairies / Gavin R. London: Strange Attractor Press:, 2024. First edition, TPBO, Trade paperback, New, 264 pp. ". . . a forensic investigation into a single LP: Dr. John, the night tripper's Gris-gris. Though released in 1968 to poor sales and a minimum of critical attention, Gris-gris has accumulated legendary status over subsequent decades for its strangeness, hybridity, and innovative production. It formed the launch pad for Dr. John's image and lengthy career and the ghostly presence of its so-called voodoo atmosphere hovers over numerous cover versions, samples, and re-invocations. Despite the respect given to the record, its making is shrouded in mystery, misunderstandings, and false conclusions. The persona of Dr. John, loosely based on dubious literary accounts of a notorious voodooist and freed slave, a nineteenth-century New Orleans resident known as Doctor John, provided Malcolm 'Mac' Rebennack with a lifelong mask through which to transform himself from session musician in order to construct a solo career. Arik Roper (illustrator). London: Strange Attractor Press:, 2023. First edition, TPBO, Trade paperback, New, 279 pp. Cover artwork by: Arik Roper "After seven years of silence, the acclaimed Strange Attractor Journal returns with a characteristically eclectic collection of high weirdness from the margins of culture. Covering previously uncharted regions of history, anthropology, art, literature, architecture, science, and magic since 2004, each Journal has presented new and unprecedented research into areas that scholarship has all too often ignored. Featuring essays from academics, artists, enthusiasts, and sorcerers, Journal Five explores matters including the folklore of foghorns; the occult origins of the dissident surrealist secret society the Acéphale; the pleasures of heathen falconry; the dark cosmological mysteries of Bremen's Haus Atlantis; a provisional taxonomy of animals with human faces; a twentieth-century crucifixion on Hampstead Heath, and an unpublished horror script by David MacGillivray and Ken Hollings. Journal Five sees Strange Attractor continuing in its mission to celebrate unpopular culture." First edition, TPBO, Trade paperback, New,

London: Strange Attractor Press:, 2025. First edition (presumed, still in shrinkwrap), Trade paperback, New, 656 pp. "Delinquent Elementals: The Very Best of Pagan News collects some of the finest articles, news reports, interviews, and humor that appeared in this singular publication, providing a fascinating glimpse into the pagan counterculture. It charts the historical timeline of the Satanic Panic scandal of the late 1980s, documents previously uncollected information, and provides a wide selection of practical knowledge and insight into occult practice. It reveals how occult practitioners interacted with the wider culture - bringing about what is now termed 'occulture' the intersection of esoteric themes with popular culture, political activism, and the struggle for LGBTQ rights and recognition. Wonderfully unpretentious and absurdly funny, this is the definitive guide to the magazine that redefined the nature of late-twentieth century occultism." 1st edition. An exhaustive investigation of the case of Gef, a "talking mongoose" or "man-weasel," also known as the Dalby Spook, who appeared to the Irving family living on the Isle of Man. "There are very few events that so defeat common sense as to enlighten and thrill as much as Gef's original "bloody silly story"." (B.Catling. Introduction). .Pp.404, many black & white illustrations and photos throughout. Paperback. VG.** In September 1931, the Irving family, consisting of James, Margaret, and a 13-year-old daughter named Voirrey, claimed they heard persistent scratching, rustling, and vocal noises behind their farmhouse's wooden wall panels. The Irvings claimed that Gef had communicated to them that he was "an extra extra clever mongoose", an "Earthbound spirit" and "a ghost in the form of a mongoose" and once said, "I am a freak. I have hands and I have feet, and if you saw me you'd faint, you'd be petrified, mummified, turned into stone or a pillar of salt!"The story was given extensive coverage by the tabloid press in Britain in the early 1930s. The Irvings' claims gained the attention of parapsychologists and ghost hunters, such as Harry Price, Hereward Carrington, and Nandor Fodor. (wiki).
