First edition (superior Hong Kong issue). Page edges slightly browned, outer parts of the endpapers a little foxed, spine a little canted, otherwise very good in like dustjacket very slightly faded at the spine. The author's second novel, longer and perhaps even more complex than his first, the famous "The Name of the Rose". Translated by William Weaver. The UK edition has two issues, one domestic and one 'export', the latter sent to Australia, New Zealand, and possibly South Africa. The UK domestic issue is printed in Suffolk by Richard Clay, has pale-blue porous endpapers prone to discolouration, and most importantly is not sewn-bound, so is susceptible to canting and even cracking of the spine. The better bound export edition is printed in Hong Kong, with a sewn-binding, with smooth-textured pale-blue endpapers, and no sterling price on the jacket flap. This heavy book will cost more to send overseas, than any default postage rate noted.
