Very good with scattered soiling and spotting to the margins, not affecting the image, and light wear along the top edge. A dramatic view of San Francisco's Golden Gate before the bridge, in the style of the Hudson River School, with expert hand-coloring. Engraved by E.P. Brandard after James D. Smillie. Brandard, a nineteenth century English painter, engraver and etcher, was best known for his steel engraved illustrations after various contemporary painters. He worked closely with J.M.W. Turner on some of his famous engraved sets of landscapes, and he was a regular exhibitor at both the Royal Academy and the British Institution.
