Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Henry Holt & Company, New York, NY, 2012. Hardcover. First Edition(number line to 1). Signed and inscribed by Mark K. Shriver. 273 numbered pages. 16 color and b&w photographs. Written (and inscribed) by Mark K. Shriver, son of Sargent Shriver who was President Kennedy's brother-in-law and was the vice presidential candidate when George McGovern ran for President in 1972 . Here's a little more about him from his Wikipedia profile: Shriver was the driving force behind the creation of the Peace Corps, he founded the Job Corps and Head Start and other programs as was the architect of Johnson's War on Poverty. He served as the United States Ambassador to France. During the 1972 U.S. presidential election, he was George McGovern's running mate as the Democratic Party's nominee for U.S. Vice President, replacing Thomas Eagleton who had resigned from the ticket. Near Fine/Near Fine. Very, very clean book. No marks or writing on the pages (excepting author's inscription and signature). No tears or soiling on the book or DJ. Only issues are minor: On the book a small bump/crease at the the bottom right corner of the front cover and a little bending at the spine ends. No issues at all with pages or binding. With the DJ a light crease at the bottom of the front cover, and very minor wear at the spine ends. use the photos to judge for yourself. The DJ will be fitted with a protective cover when the book is sold. From the DJ flap: "Sarge" Shriver--founder of the Peace Corps and architect of President Johnson's War on Poverty--died in 2011 after a valiant fight with Alzheimer's, thousands of tributes poured in from friends and strangers worldwide. These tributes, which extolled the daily kindness and humanity of "a good man," moved his son Mark far more than those who lauded Sarge for his big-stage, headline-making accomplishments. After a lifetime searching for the path to his father's success in the public arena, Mark instead turns to a search for the secret of his father's joy, his devotion to others, and his sense of purpose. Mark discovers notes and letters from Sarge; hears personal stories from friends and family that zero in on the three guiding principles of Sarge's life--faith, hope, and love--and recounts moments with Sarge that now take on new value and poignancy. In the process, Mark discovers much about himself, as a father, as a husband, and as a social justice advocate. A Good Man is an inspirational and deeply personal story about a son discovering the true meaning of his father's legacy. Inscribed by Author(s).
