Cream cloth backed with a red buckram spine, with a printed title label on the spine and illustrated with vignettes in red on both covers. The covers are soiled and stained and there are some short green crayon lines on the rear cover. 147 & [144] pages plus the colophon, illustrated with a color frontispiece and 33 black & white aquatone plates. THE BOOK IS LACKING THE COLOR FOLDING MAP AT BACK. The front hinge is starting to crack and the endpapers are slightly foxed. A bookplate of a sailing ship is mounted at the bottom of the front pastedown. A good working copy. Limited edition of 501 numbered copies printed by the printing house of Williman Edwin Rudge.

First run in 1839, it is a handicap steeplechase over an official distance of about 4 miles and 2½ furlongs (4 miles 514 yards (6.907 km)), with horses jumping 30 fences over two laps. It is the most valuable jump race in Europe, with a prize fund of £1 million in 2017. An event that is prominent in British culture, the race is popular amongst many people who do not normally watch or bet on horse racing at other times of the year.
