Hardcover. Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. Complete set of first editions, first printings of the UK DELUXE signature collector's edition. Cloth boards with inlaid image. Gilt text and edging. This series was introduced by Bloomsbury in 1999 specifically for collectors. Later that September, DeLuxe editions of Harry Potter and the Philosopher s Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets followed. The subsequent volumes were published in 2000, 2003, 2005, and 2007, each released alongside the corresponding trade edition. Like the trade editions, the first three books feature a number line from 1 to 10, while the later titles are marked First edition . Notably, Azkaban and Philosophers Stone were printed in particularly small first-run quantities. Although the later titles are slightly less scarce, they were still produced in limited numbers and are considered true collector s items. Original uniform harlequin cloth (7 vols), with gilt decoration, illustrations to upper covers, and all edges gilt (some in shrinkwrap). Additional volumes (3 vols) in publisher's illustrated covers. Volumes V and VI in shrink-wrap, as-new; others show just light general handling. Near fine. The deluxe issue is a larger format, in decorative cloth binding. Harry Potter's award-winning wizarding adventures have had an unrivalled impact in popular culture today; indeed, some experts have referred to adults between the ages of roughly 20-30 years old as 'the Harry Potter generation', who are seen to hold markedly different values to their parents. Harry Potter is a series of many genres, including fantasy, bildungsroman, and the British school story (which includes elements of mystery, thriller, adventure, and romance). According to Rowling, the main theme of the books is death although prejudice, corruption, and madness can be seen as dominant motifs.

By the time of the publication of The Prisoner of Azkaban had come around Bloomsbury Publishing were beginning to realise that they had a publishing phenomenon on their hands. Interviewed in 2013, Nigel Newton, CEO of Bloomsbury stated ' if you think of any of the great children's classics, there would tend to be a really nice edition. Harry Potter deserves it more than anything we have ever published'. The books then were published with the gift market in mind. The Prisoner of Azkaban was the first to be published (Errington p. 199) in September 1999 with The Philosopher's Stone and The Chamber of Secrets published simultaneously just a few days later. The print run of all three is unknown but was in a limited number, with The Prisoner of Azkaban appearing as a first printing most rarely. Errington, J. K. Rowling A Bibliography 1997-2013.

Condition: Fine. Inscribed first printings of the deluxe editions in the fantasy series, all dedicated to the same family, with three additionally signed "Jo." These deluxe editions, slightly larger in format and produced with higher quality materials, were one way Bloomsbury responded to reader demand, especially in the gift market. Unfortunately, the Harry Potter market has been so hot in recent years that her signature is now notorious for its proliferation of forgeries, with even Rowling commenting on the problem (Deadline, "Rowling reveals many books 'signed' by her are fakes"). In such a market, a set like this inscribed to a single family, friends of the author who called her "Jo," is exceptional. 7 volumes. Each volume in original cloth of various colors with tipped-in illustration, gilt-lettered front boards and spines, original silk ribbon markers. Without dust jackets as issued. Every volume inscribed to the same recipients; Philosopher's Stone, Half-Blood Prince, and Order of the Phoenix signed both "JK Rowling" and "Jo." Housed in custom red cloth slipcase. Nearly flawless.
