This appears to be the first edition of a book that was prepared for use in Home Health Education classes under the direction of the Medical Department of the General Conference of Seventh-Day Adventists. The focus is on a vegetarian lifestyle. Chapters include The Adequate Diet, Protein, Foods for Energy, Minerals, Vitamins, The Child and Good Nutrition and Digestion. Each chapter includes recipes and menus. Given the date, the assumption is that mothers are staying home and many of the recipes are quite time consuming. Also, given the wide array of meat substitues available today, such concoctions as Gluten slices don't sound very appetizing to the modern cook! There is an emphasis on low sugar, but the one hand-written recipe tucked in the book is for coconut-pecan-cherry candy balls made with powdered sugar sweetened condensed milk and chocolate chips! Fascinating look at ideas about nutrition nearly seventy years ago. The book was reprinted and probably updated until 1983 - it would be interesting to see any changes. Condition is VG with a little edge wear and some food staing onthe back cover. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 111 pages.

Rare first edition copy of "Keeping Fit All the Way" - How to Obtain and Maintain Health, Strength and Efficiency by WALTER CAMP (who was known as the "Father of American Football"). 1919 1st edition, 1st printing (January); Harper & Brothers; New York. The book is richly illustrated with photographs "taken under the direction of the author." From the Introduction: "The number of men who 'keep fit' in this country has been surprisingly few, while the number of those who have made good resolutions about keeping fit is astonishingly large. Reflection upon this fact has convinced the writer that the reason for this state of affairs lies partly in our inability to visualize the conditions and our failure to impress upon all men the necessity of physical exercise. Still more, however, does it rest upon our failure to make a scientific study of reducing all the variety of proposals to some standard of exceeding simplicity. Present systems have not produced results, no matter what the reason. Hence this book with its review of the situation and its final practical conclusions." Condition: Light stain at the top-right corner of the front cover. There are a couple light stains near the center of the spine. There are a few small, light stains along the perimeter of the back cover. Small cloth tear near the bottom-left corner of the spine. There is a crack at the front between pages 4 & 5 resulting in the front cover being shaky. The pages are clean and nearly appear unread with no notable issues found. There is a thin, 3/4" strip at the hinge between the front end paper and pastedown, where the top paper layer has torn. Overall the book is in Good condition.
