Loss to cloth at spine ends and split to rear joint, spine faded, corners bumped. Plate on p. 110, reatached and damaged to edges, light marks and foxing to edges of other leaves, occasionally to text. Four page prospectus loosely laid in. Over 200 b&w illustrations and plans and 17 plates in colour. Scott produced nearly 300 buildings, known for developing his own Arts and Crafts style, and working on both exterior and interior, along with the decoration. A good working copy of an uncommon book. 4to.

Mackay Hugh Baillie Scott, né en 23 octobre 1865 à Beards Hill, St. Peters près de Ramsgate dans le Kent et décédé le 10 février 1945, est un architecte et artiste anglais.Né d'une famille d'exploitants agricoles du Kent, d'origine écossaise, Baillie Scott étudie d'abord l'agriculture avant de s'orienter vers l'architecture. Il fait son apprentissage chez Charles Davis, architecte de la ville de Bath. En 1889, il s'établit sur l'île de Man puis emménage dans le Bedfordshire. Dès l'année suivante, il est très sollicité pour des projets en Angleterre mais aussi à l'étranger. Il réalise des demeures opulentes comme des maisons plus modestes, toujours dans le style Arts and Crafts. En parallèle il crée du mobilier. Livres.

In 1906 Baillie Scott published House and Gardens, an illustrated survey of h works which gives a detailed account of his work and ideas at this time in hi career, and elegantly describes his philosophy of design. The work is divide into two sections, the first containing Baillie Scott's philosophy of design profusely illustrated with drawings and plans. The second section contains actual commissions including Findon, Rose Court, Blackwell, the 'House for an Art lover,' Bexton Croft, Five Gables,but also commissions from abroad includ furnished rooms for Darmstadt and Mannheim. The work concluded by a chapter furniture. Pages 121 to the end printed on china clay paper and contain a bl of text interspersed with numerous half-tone plates. Some slight fading.
