He spent his entire life here, much of it in writing and editorial work, dying in 1471. Two of his works, The Imitation of Christ and The Darmstadt Bible, conclude with this statement: Finished and completed in the year of our Lord 1441 by the hand of brother Thomas von Kempen at Mt. St. Agnes near Zwolle.
