Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. London. Book Cub Associates/Jonathan Cape Ltd. 1981. First Edition. No later dates shown. Hard Cover. Tan cloth boards with gilt spine titles. The text block is evenly toned along the edges and the top edge slightly dust dulled but the book is otherwise clean and unmarked. Condition is very good plus. Iconic vintage artwork to dust jacket by Mon Mohan using a painting by Richard Chopping and featuring a Browning 9mm. The rear of the jacket shows the author standing in front of a reproduction of Villier's portrait of Ian Fleming. Jacket has some minor tape wear at the flaps and just a hint at the spine ends but is very good plus/near fine. In 1981, Gardner was asked to revive Ian Fleming's Bond series of novels. This title is the first he wrote. Between 1981 and 1996, he wrote sixteen novels. While the books were commercial successes, Gardner was ambivalent about writing novels with a character he hadn't created. In the book, Bond's mission is to halt the hijack of 6 nuclear plants simultaneously around the world by the villain Murik.

The dear old formula of the Mad Scientist is also renewed, with great success; and the Girlâwith a splendidly improbable name of courseâis a worthy addition to the famous gallery of Bond's beautiesâ (Financial Times).
