Maroon blind-stamped cloth gilt. Boards nearly detached, library label on front pastedown, small label on spine, no other library marks. A massive and important work on horny sponges, by far the most comprehensive work up to that date. Originally published for the Royal Society at three pounds. Very heavy, about 5 kg packed.

Lendlmayer von Lendenfeld (1858-1913) is both known as an alpinist (author of, for instance, Die Hochgebirge der Erde) and a spongiologist - an unusual combination. Binding solid.
