James Clavell (Charles Edmund Dumaresq Clavell) was an Australian-born, British-raised and educated, naturalized-American writer, screenwriter, director, and World War II veteran and prisoner of war. Clavell is best known for his Asian Saga novels, a number of which have had television adaptations. Clavell also wrote such screenplays as those for The Fly (1958), based on the short story by George Langelaan, and The Great Escape (1963), based on the personal account of Paul Brickhill. He directed the popular 1967 film To Sir, with Love, for which he also wrote the script. Shogun is a 1975 historical novel by author James Clavell that chronicles the end of Japan's Azuchi-Momoyama period (1568-1600) and the dawn of the Edo period (1603-1868). Loosely based on actual events and figures, Shogun narrates how European interests and internal conflicts within Japan brought about the Shogunate restoration. By 1980 six million copies of Shogun had been sold worldwide. The novel has been adapted into two TV series (in 1980 and 2024), a stage production (Shogun: The Musical), a board game, and three video games. Though its historical setting is the earliest, it is the third of six published books in Clavell's broader Asian Saga series. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Signed by Author.

Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: No Dustjacket. First Edition. ISBN 0689105657. Hardback. No dustjacket. Original 1975 edition. First Edition as stated on the copyright page. First off, the flaws. Light foxing to the outer edges of the inner text block. Light green grease pencil slash to the bottom edge of the green cloth spine which is not all that noticeable as the colors are compatible. small previous owners inscription on the top area of the first white page in after the illustrated endpapers. Very light fading to the outer edges of the blue paper stock front and back covers as is common with just about every copy i've seen of this book. And a very slight spine bow which is actually isnt bad as most copies of this book usually have a very bowed spine from reading. Otherwise book is a nice Tight sound unmarked copy in Good to Very Good condition. A very good candidate for someone to purchase a facsimile First Edition dustjacket which would obscure some of the books worst flaws . This book is Shogun: A Novel of Japan Original 1975 First Edition. No Signature.

Cloth & Boards. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Black lettered quarter green cloth over gray boards. Wrapped in decorative dust jacket. This copy signed by the author on the first blank "James C, Bev Hills -July '75" Book has scratch and fingerprint grease spot on front cover and sunning on the reverse and top edge. Jacket is near fine. Beverley Hills could almost be seen as Clavell's home town as he had been in Hollywood for some time writing screenplays. Shogun has been filmed twice, the most recent adaptation quite splendid. This is one of the great adventure novels of the 20th century which takes place in the Japan of 1600, loosely based on a famous period in Japanese history. Signed early in his tour this is a very desirable copy Size: 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Signed by Author(s). Book.
