Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Saul Steinberg (illustrator). 1st Edition. The Art Of Living by Saul Steinberg Hardcover 1949 Printing; Harper & Brothers First Edition, Folio in the Original cloth, in the pictorial dust jacket by Steinberg. jacket shows wear, else very good, book and text is excellent. This is his 2nd book after his All in Line and is almost as rare in find in the original dust jacket. A special signed copy with his whimsical self portrait signing on the prelim sheet the artist writes himself in!!!!! The Art of Living (in the wrong century) says Saul Steinberg, really means the Art of Surviving in the struggle between man and contraptions. Here, in some 300 of his unique drawings, the famed artist and cartoonist presents his superbly funny and pleasantly disturbing view of life today in the United States. No mere collection of cartoons, this book is divided into five parts: 1. THE ART OF LIVING 2. THE IMPORTANT PEOPLE 3. THE DOMESTIC ANIMALS 4. THE ARTS 5. THE WOMEN Each drawing is a delightful product of the in-imitable pen which has earned Steinberg his place as one of our most admired satirists; together they make up a weird and wonderful report on the American scene?people and animals, furnishings and institutions, arts and gadgets. About two-thirds of the drawings are published here for the first time. Signed by Author(s).
