Wear to bottom of spine panel. Fading to spine. Not bad - could be a lot worse.

Very crisp and clean inside and out with the exception of a light sprinkling of foxing to the fore edge of the textblock and very light bumping to the bottom of the spine. Slight age toning to the textblock. Attractive bookplate of notable botanist and author Mary Briggs to the FEP. Small contemporary newspaper cutting neatly pasted to the centre of the FFEP entitled Style Wins, relating to the awarding of the Duff Cooper literary prize to the book. The price-clipped DJ is lightly bumped along the the top edge only. The front remains mostly pink but with the top and one edge faded to cream, as is the spine, though the title is still visible in pink. A lovely copy of the scarce true first edition of this cult classic of nature writing.

Most copies have faded to white. Binding tight with clean pages. Light toning to edges. Laid in is a Sunday Times review of the book from 19th of March 1967. Always uncommon and now more so since it reached a new audience when a 50th Anniversary Edition was published in 2017. One of the finest pieces of prose of the 20th century and a very uncommon true first of this stunning book.
