Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. various (illustrator). 1st Edition. A wonderful, large, luxuriously produced study of the eighteenth century maestro of furniture design, issued in 1925 at 2 guineas, which in today's money would be about £130. Incredibly rare in its original dustwrapper and both the book and wrapper are in really fine condition, chiefly because the previous owner, a cabinet maker to the Royal Household, had covered the book in brown paper in December 1926 when he inscribed his name in pencil in the book. Bluish-black buckram with bright gilt lettering and design to upper board and spine. Frontispiece, introduction, ten chapters, six appendices, works of reference, index, description of plates. Illustrations: frontispiece, Chippendale's signature, eight designs in the text, sixty one black and white plates. Heavy paper stock. Just a little offsetting to the endpapers but this doesn't detract from the book's overall fine, crisp condition. It exudes quality throughout and would make a perfect gift for a lover of fine furniture. Extra postage costs may need to be factored in, as this is a heavy book.
