Manuscript / Paper Collectible Signed
Ephemera. Condition: Very good. A half-page typed letter addressed "Dear Robert" and signed "Wilbert Awdry" discussing Awdry's research in the archives of the Birmingham and Gloucester Railway ("B'ham & Glos. Rly"). "The Birmingham (Working) Committee Minutes are fascinating, full of almost day to day incidents in the running of the railway, and plenty about J. E. McC[onnell]. Up to now I've reached June 1842." In addition to writing the beloved Thomas the Tank Engine series of children's books, Awdry (1911-1997) was an Anglican minister and a railway enthusiast. This letter demonstrates his commitment to research: eighteen more years would pass after he wrote this letter before his book on the history of the Birmingham and Gloucester Railway would be published. Folded for mailing. Short note initialed "W.A." added at the bottom of the letter; the recipient also notes in ink that he had acknowledged the letter.
