First edition; 8 3/4 x 4 3/4; pp. [9], 10-123, [1]; embossed blue cloth over boards; gilt title and decorations to spine; a bit of wear to tips of spine and corners; minor spotting to boards; some foxing to first and last few leaves only; illustrated with two, full-page, engravings frontis and an engraved vignette at the beginning of first chapter; gift inscription to ffep; very good condition.Sisters Elizabeth Kirby (1823â"1873) and Mary Kirby (1817â"1893) were renowned English authors and illustrators, Mary for her books on natural science, also known as the only woman to write a scientific study of British flora in the 19th century, and Elizabeth - for her children's books. The current cautionary tale, on which both sisters collaborated, told the story of little Amy - how she took her grandma's pearl necklace without permission and the consequences of her action. 2.

Previous owner's inscription to ffep. Endpapers extremely toned, some variable foxing and toning to all pages (including fore-edge of tect block). Altogether a copy in Very Good condition. Very Good.
