Allen in 1981, this is the First UK edition of Charles Bukowski's classic novel, Women. The Black Sparrow Press first edition was awkwardly edited by publisher John Martin, prompting Bukowski to demand that Martin to put out a second revised printing of the book. The UK first edition is the way Bukowski intended it to be read. This copy is in near fine condition with an unclipped price tag. The jacket has some light sunning to the spine and very minimal wear to the covers. The pages have tanned/browned over time but are clean. Shelf 2.

Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. VG-/G+ in glassine jacket as published. One of the 500 trade copies. Book slightly cocked. Some foxing along the top edge. Women by Charles Bukowski is a semi-autobiographical novel that follows the exploits of Henry Chinaski, Bukowski's alter ego, as he navigates relationships, lust, and debauchery in his later years. The novel portrays Chinaski as a hard-drinking, misanthropic poet and writer who becomes entangled with a series of womeneach unique, flawed, and fascinating in their own way. Through his often crude and brutally honest perspective, Bukowski explores themes of desire, loneliness, and the complexities of human connection. While controversial for its explicit content and unapologetic tone, Women is also celebrated for its raw emotion and incisive humor. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say these trade copies are often just as difficult to find and the signed limiteds. Why? Most of these went to libraries -- as well as actual readers. Who read the book. More than once.

Hardcover. Charles Bukowski (illustrator). First edition, deluxe issue. This copy is #64/75 numbered signed copies with an original painting by Bukowski tipped in. Laying paint to paper allows art, but only very rarely. Bukowski loved to draw his doodles with his eyes closed, figuring on divine intervention. He came closest when drawing his bird figures; flying, standing, carousing, etc. In this copy he presents, perhaps, the best bird of all, confidant, complex, colorful, all knowing. A stunner. Krumhansl 63e. A nearly fine copy with the original publisher's acetate dust jacket.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Published by Black Sparrow Press in 1978, this is a Presentation Copy of Women with a great painting by Charles Bukowski. This is perhaps the most quintessential painting for the book that Bukowski did, replete with fun, if not obvious symbolism. There were 75 copies of this edition, with 10 of those being presentation copies. Below is the description from Krumhansl: 91 signed copies each with an original painting by Bukowski tipped in were published 15 December 1978: 75 copies numbered 1-75 plus 16 copies, 10 numbered and marked "Presentation Copy"; and 1 each marked "Author's Copy," "Publisher's Copy," "Printer's Copy," "Binder's Copy," "File Copy," and "Linda Lee's Copy." The book's one major flaw is sunning to the spine that has all but made the pattern on clothe disappear. The spine label has sunning as well, but the title has retained its blue color. The book is also a bit forward-leaning, perhaps partly from inserting the painting. There is also a small stain on the fore edge of the book. All-in-all, a great painting in a book that remains very attractive. File Box 2. Signed by Author(s).

"Written in an episodic manner reminiscent of Post Office and Factotum, the book begins with a typically Bukowskian complaint: "I was 50 years old and hadn't been to bed with a woman for four years." It was the kind of honesty that people had come to expect from Henry Chinaski/Charles Bukowski" (Cherkovski, p.262). Among the most desirable of the author's books. Krumhansl 63d. 4407.
